Katherine Robertson joins Steve Marshall in starting her campaign for Alabama’s next Attorney General.

Katherine Robertson Launches 2026 Campaign for Alabama Attorney General

Katherine Robertson, Chief Attorney for Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, officially kicked off her campaign for the 2026 election during an event Tuesday night in Birmingham. The gathering was well-attended, reflecting significant support.

Marshall took the opportunity to introduce Robertson, emphasizing her potential to be Alabama’s first female attorney general. He shared, “I stand here to proudly support you and introduce you to everyone as the next Attorney General, Katherine Robertson.” It’s clear he holds her in high regard.

While Marshall has received much acclaim for his own tenure, he refrained from discussing his aspirations for the U.S. Senate during his speech. Instead, he focused entirely on championing Robertson, even cracking a joke about term limits that resonated with the audience.

Robertson began her remarks by acknowledging Marshall’s contributions. “They say running for office isn’t supposed to be fun, but it has been quite enjoyable,” she remarked, adding that she believes Marshall is destined to be the best attorney general in Alabama’s history.

Having served as Marshall’s chief attorney since 2017, her background is quite extensive. Before joining his team, she worked for former Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange and began her career at the U.S. Department of Justice. She has also been involved with the Senate Judiciary Committee and served under U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

A graduate of Auburn University and the University of Alabama School of Law, Robertson has been instrumental in areas like capital litigation, parole reforms, and addressing gang violence, notably playing a significant role in Alabama’s opioid litigation.

Marshall highlighted their teamwork, saying, “Working alongside someone in the trenches reveals their true character. Throughout the tenure of battling lawlessness, she remained steadfast and led us through challenging legal scenarios.”

As Robertson outlined her vision, she pledged to continue the strong legal tradition established by Marshall while focusing on crime reduction, combatting federal overreach, and countering out-of-state liberalism. “From my first day in the Attorney General’s office, I felt the weight of responsibility towards Alabamians,” she expressed. “That feeling hasn’t faded.”

She also discussed legislative triumphs, emphasizing recent laws that combat gang violence and child exploitation. Throughout her campaign, Robertson has aligned herself with President Trump’s agenda and critiqued previous administrations for not aligning with Alabama values.

Robertson’s campaign officially launched with her filing for candidacy, although a funding report has yet to be submitted. With the election date of May 19, 2026, approaching quickly, it remains to be seen how well she can mobilize support and funding, aided by her connections within the Republican Attorney General’s Association.

Furthermore, in the political landscape for Alabama in 2026, Robertson faces competition, including Jay Mitchell, a former Alabama Supreme Court Judge who has declared his candidacy for Attorney General.
