Katie Britt: ‘Antisemitism has no place in America’

U.S. Senator Katie Britt has used her position to Rise of anti-Semitism It's an issue many Jewish Americans face on college campuses across the country, and this week she went a step further, supporting a bill that would ensure American taxpayers don't foot the student loan bills for people who engage in anti-Semitic hate.

“Bigotry has no place on American soil,” Britt told WSFA News 12. “And I hope that this generation will learn from the lessons of history and understand that anti-Semitism has no place in this country. We have to stand up now. We have to stand up big time.”

Since the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks in Israel, illegal encampments protesting Israel's war against Hamas have popped up on college campuses across the country.

Britt, along with 18 of her senator colleagues, co-sponsored the Campus Criminal Relief Prevention Act, which would block campus protesters who have been convicted of a crime from receiving certain loan forgiveness.

“America's college campuses should not be daycare centers,” Britt said in a statement. “When students choose to break the law and disrupt the learning environment on campus, they should face real-world consequences, and one of those consequences should be that American taxpayers do not foot the bill. The Campus Criminal Relief Act is common sense legislation that will deter further lawlessness on campuses across the nation.”

The bill was introduced on May 2 by Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas).

Britt was responding to a recent pro-Palestinian protest on the University of Alabama campus where counterprotesters were chanting “USA.”
