On Monday, U.S. Sen. Katie Britt spoke on the Senate floor ahead of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's party-line vote on the Democrats' “Birth Control Rights Act,” scheduled for Wednesday. In announcing the vote over the weekend, Sen. Schumer (D-NY) wrote that “Democrats will put reproductive freedom first.”
Britt argued that Democrats' blanket rhetoric on the issue has been crafted as part of a “summer of scare tactics” narrative, a purely political act of fear-mongering aimed at confusing and misleading voters ahead of November.
“This week, my colleagues on the other side will begin a 'Summer of Scare Tactics,' which unfortunately is a continuation of the fear-mongering campaigns we've already seen. Contraception is available in every state across the country,” said Sen. Britt (R-Montgomery). “And of course, I want to be absolutely, 100% clear that I support continued nationwide access to contraception, but that is not the purpose of the bill my colleagues on the other side will be introducing on Wednesday.”

“This bill once again tramples on fundamental religious freedom protections that have been bipartisan for years and truly must be maintained on a bipartisan basis. And my colleagues on the other side of the aisle know it. The goal right now of my Democratic colleagues is to scare the American people, to scare women across this great country. They don't believe there is a real problem they're trying to solve. They're prioritizing their own short-term partisan political gain,” Britt said.
“Sadly, this only does a disservice to the families and women we are trying to find common ground to help. We've seen false fear-mongering with the MOMS Act, and we've already seen it with issues like IVF. I want to be clear that Republicans support continued nationwide access to IVF, just like nationwide access to contraception.”
The Senate Republicans' proposed solution, in the form of the IVF Protection Act introduced by Sens. Britt and Ted Cruz (R-Texas), aims to provide further protections for IVF services across the United States.

Contrary to Democrats' claims, the bill does not force any person or organization to provide IVF services. It allows states to enforce health and safety standards for the practice of IVF. And states would be ineligible to receive Medicaid funding if they banned access to IVF.
Senator Britt went on to criticize at length the false narrative that Schumer and Democrats are promoting on the Senate floor. “I look forward to further discussing this issue next week. Unfortunately, my Democratic colleagues will continue their 'summer of scare tactics,'” Senator Britt said.
“The Republican Party is the party of families, and we will continue to fight to support the rights and freedoms of families across America.”
