Two Alabama high school students have been selected to participate in the prestigious 2024 U.S. Senate Youth Program.
The program is an annual one-week program for two outstanding high school students from each state who are interested in pursuing a career in public service, with a mission to provide an in-depth look at the Senate and the federal government. “Provides educational experiences and scholarships.” whole. “
Two students, Ashland Michelle Ross of Satsuma and Edward Shujie Pan of Vestavia Hills, were selected by the U.S. Senate Youth Program (USSYP) Advisory Committee to represent the state of Alabama.
Sen. Katie Britt, a member of the advisory committee, praised the two students while also noting the importance of the USSYP program.
“Ashland and Edward are the most outstanding representatives of our state and we are proud to have selected them as the 2024 Alabama USSYP Representatives,” Britt said. “I look forward to seeing them in our nation’s capital in March and would like to personally congratulate them on their outstanding achievements.”

As part of the program, Ross and Pan will participate in the 62nd International Congress.n.d. Washington Week is held from March 2nd to 9th each year. Deepen your understanding of the federal government. They will also have the opportunity to attend meetings and briefings with members of Congress, Supreme Court Justices, leaders of various Cabinet agencies, and even the President.
USSYP was founded in 1962 to provide a true partnership between government leaders, state and national education leaders, and America's future leaders.
Each student representative is encouraged to continue in government and history classes and receives a $10,000 undergraduate scholarship to the university of their choice.
