Katie Britt on Texas floods: ‘We need to unite as a country, but Democrats chose to assign blame right away. This isn’t usual’

Sen. Katie Britt Criticizes Political Responses to Texas Tragedy

U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) has taken issue with some of her colleagues across the aisle who, she argues, are exploiting the recent tragedy in Texas for political gain against former President Donald Trump.

The situation became more dire early Friday morning, with the death toll climbing to 173 by Wednesday. This includes victims from Camp Mystic, an All-Girls Christian Summer Camp located near Hunt, Texas.

Amidst the outpouring of support, eight-year-old Sarah Marsh from Mountain Brook was tragically among those who lost their lives.

Some Democratic leaders, like U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), have pointed fingers at the Trump administration for federal workforce cuts, claiming these changes could be linked to the rising number of fatalities.

Britt addressed these allegations during an appearance on “Hannity” on the Fox News Channel.

“I think what these families need is our prayer, compassion, love and support,” Britt stated. “It’s heartbreaking that Democrats would come in and try to politicize this moment, detracting from the grief and healing that’s needed.”

Britt emphasized that the divisive language around such a sensitive issue “must stop.” She believes that Democrats should not frame this tragedy as a political issue involving Trump.

“This nation needs to heal, and there’s simply no space for such attitudes in America. I hope those who are being exceptionally critical will reflect on how their actions affect families who are grieving,” she expressed.

She further commented on the need for Democrats to set aside their disdain for Trump when addressing natural disasters. “Taking such a tragedy and trying to politicize it, I think that mentality is dangerous,” Britt insisted. “Not every event has to be a battleground for political interests. It’s crucial to focus on what we can do to mitigate future disasters without adding more hostility.”
