Kenneth Cox begins his run for Hoover City Council

Kenneth Cox Announces Candidacy for Hoover City Council

Longtime coach, administrator, and community leader Kenneth Cox declared his intention to run for a seat on the Hoover City Council on August 26th in the upcoming local elections.

Cox, a resident of Hoover, expressed his goal to create a “community that’s stronger and more connected, where all voices can be heard.”

“I’ve dedicated my life to uniting people and achieving results. Now, I’m ready to contribute to our city with the same commitment and vision,” said Cox in his campaign announcement.

With over 20 years of experience in leadership, mentoring, and public service, Cox previously served as the athletic director and head coach of cross country and track and field at Birmingham Southern University, leading his team to seven NCAA Division III National Championships. In 2024, he was honored with induction into the Birmingham-South University Sports Hall of Fame.

Apart from track and field, Cox is involved in several community organizations. He is currently vice-chairman of Leadership Hoover, resource development chair for the Boys and Girls Club in Central Alabama, and holds positions as an officer in both the Hoover Parks and Recreation Foundation and the Downtown Redevelopment Agency. Additionally, he’s the senior game manager for the World Police & Fire Games 2025.

Cox’s influence also extends nationally as he has served as president of the American Association of Athletics and Cross Country Coaches, where he contributed to initiatives designed to promote the sport.

He earned an Executive MBA from Faulkner University, a Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and an Honorary Doctor of Philosophy from Trinity International Ambassador University.

Cox lives in Hoover with his wife, Dr. Leisha Ellis Cox, and their three children, Bailey, Chloe, and Evan. The family attends the Christian Church, where Cox serves as the butler.

In Hoover, all seven city council seats will be elected at large, meaning each councillor represents the entire city rather than a specific district.

As of now, Cox hasn’t specified which seat he intends to pursue.
