Kentucky Woman Attributes Pregnancy for Damaging Ex’s Car with Salt and Glitter

Woman Charged with Felony for Damaging Ex-Boyfriend’s Car

A woman from Kentucky is facing serious charges after allegedly causing nearly $12,500 in damages to her ex-boyfriend’s vehicle, as reported by Fox 56 News.

Stephanie Karlquist, 31, was taken into custody by police in Richmond on August 14, while being charged with first-degree criminal mischief. This followed a spree of vandalism that occurred over five days in July. The damage apparently started on July 6, when Karlquist is said to have cut the tires and further vandalized her ex’s car at his home.

Court documents reveal that the destruction intensified between July 15 and 20. During this period, she reportedly poured salt into the engine, compromised the air conditioning system, smashed the windshield and rearview mirrors, and wrecked the radio display. Her ex-boyfriend didn’t realize the full extent of the damage until July 20, when he had the car towed to a Goodyear shop. Mechanics estimated the repair costs at $12,464.

Interestingly, screenshots shared by the victim’s mother with the police show that Karlquist admitted to the vandalism in a message to her ex. In this message, she mentioned feeling overwhelmed and attributed her actions to stress related to her pregnancy. She even offered to cover the repair costs, provide another vehicle, and use her own car as compensation.

Her father also attempted to mediate the situation, texting the victim to suggest that there might be a way to resolve things without involving serious legal consequences, saying, “I won’t get hurt anymore because Stephanie can come to a better solution than getting a felony charge.”

According to the records from Madison County Detention Center, Karlquist is currently being held on a $12,000 bond. If convicted, she faces significant prison time due to the felony charge.
