The game got its nickname because Raiders players mocked Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes with a Kermit the Frog doll during training camp, making fun of both his looks and the way he speaks. It originates from the incident where it was used.
Below is a flashback.

Mahomes was asked about this during a media session and simply said, “When it’s addressed, it’s addressed.”
I even had a spot-on headline at the time that still describes this whole situation perfectly. “Raiders try to troll Patrick Mahomes with ‘Kermit the Frog’ puppet and Super Bowl season could start all over again instead.”
