Kevin Costner's Horizon: An American Saga will officially be released on HBO Max on August 23rd after a spectacular theatrical release.
Costner may have made the most expensive direct-to-video movie of all time with the first instalment in his Horizon series. Despite a budget of $100 million ($38 million of which was Costner's own money), it grossed just $32 million worldwide. The first Horizon was a huge flop in theaters and was available on paid streaming services within a month of its release.
It will be available on HBO on August 23rd, so subscribers can watch it as part of their package. According to To variety.
This dire news for Costner's career comes hours after rumors circulated that he's secretly hoping “Yellowstone” would fail without him. Sources say Costner is “obsessed” with how many spinoffs creator Taylor Sheridan is making (there are lots, and each one features an A-list cast). “Kevin is well aware that Taylor Sheridan and other traitors are probably laughing at Horizon's poor ratings, which only strengthens his resentment and loathing towards them,” a source claimed, suggesting Costner is unlikely to plead guilty and complete his role as John Dutton in the hit series.

I truly believe that if Costner hadn't gone through the public drama fest with Sheridan and abandoned the cast, crew and fans of “Yellowstone,” we would all have been successful in his “Horizon” project. A second film in the series has already been completed and is set to premiere out of competition at the Venice Film Festival in 2024. There were plans for two more films in the series, but Variety reports that may not happen.
