Former House Speaker and Congressman Kevin McCarthy has already lined up his next government job: jury duty, even though he has barely left public office.
The Bakersfield Republican posted on his social media accounts Tuesday that he is putting an end to questions about his next steps after leaving Congress in December.
“There's been a lot of speculation about what I'll do next,” he wrote. “I'm ready to put an end to the rumors. I'm on jury duty!”

His 16 years as a member of the Diet ended on December 31st.
The former congressman has remained tight-lipped about his next steps as a private citizen, but with his talent for fundraising and experience as a state and federal lawmaker, it's likely he will continue to get involved in politics from the private sector. Many people are guessing. But his first move after leaving Capitol Hill was to experience another branch of government.
