The Farmington Women’s Business Center will host an Empower Her Forum via Zoom on Friday, March 24, from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon.

This forum will focus on self-care, connection and community for busy women. The presentation will discuss how women can take care of themselves and how self-care can bring all other aspects of life into better balance.

The event also celebrates National Women’s History Month and features women in San Juan County and beyond who are ready to inspire, empower, encourage and support women in the region.

Durango author Scott Graham makes a stop at Amy’s Bookcase at 2530 San Juan Boulevard from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on his ‘Saguaro Sanctions’ book tour in Farmington.

Graham will read Saguaro Sanction, the eighth book in the National Park Mystery series set in the Sonoran Desert of southern Arizona. The book delves into the history of the region’s petroglyphs and deserts, as well as border immigration issues.

Copies of “Saguaro Sanction” are available for purchase and Graham will sign the book during the event.

Celebrate the Sondheim performance

Celebrate Sondheim opens March 23rd and runs through April 3rd at the Farmington Civic Center at 200 W. Arrington St. Evening His performance takes place Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 pm and the matinee performance on Sunday at 2:00 pm.

Co-authored by Farmington Civic Center Supervisor Randy West, Celebrate Sondheim is an original musical revue honoring contemporary musical theater’s iconic composer and lyricist, Stephen Sondheim. Early in his career, West studied with Sondheim.

Harry Potter-themed Astro Friday

The San Juan College Planetarium will host a Harry Potter-themed AstroFriday on Friday, March 24 at 6:30 and 7:30 pm at the planetarium at 4601 College Blvd.

“The Astronomy of Harry Potter” features a live sky show and a tour of the sky to identify celestial bodies whose names appear in the popular Harry Potter series of books and related films by J.K. Rowling.

The show discusses topics such as the star Sirius, named after the character Sirius Black, and the constellation of the Great Dog, which includes Sirius.

Many of the characters’ names in the series have astronomical origins, and participants learn to find them in the sky.

The show is free, but seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. To maintain dark adaptation, there will be no late entry to the planetarium after the show has started.

Weather permitting, public stargazing is offered after the program.

Flea markets and craft fairs

Locke Street Eats reopens for the season, with several new events lined up in addition to community favorites like monthly flea markets and craft fair events.

The first flea market will be held Saturday, March 18 from 8am to 1pm at Locke Street Eats at 112 N. Locke Ave. Vendors will be on site to sell various items.

The first craft fair of the season will be held at Locke Street Eats on Saturday, March 25 from 8am to 1pm. Shop for handmade arts and crafts from local makers and artisans.

Enjoy food and drinks from on-site food trucks while browsing flea markets and craft fairs. DejaBrew Coffee, Mac Wagon, Pappa Big Sexy’s Pizza, The Paleta Bar, Big Drinks Dinky Donuts, Purple Cow Cafe, George and Johns.
