bullhead city – Three elementary schools in the Bullhead City School District (BCSD) will be enrolling and enrolling new kindergarten students for the fall semester over two days this month. Kindergarten registration, which is held annually, is open to new students who will be 5 years old by August 31st of this year.
Kindergarten registration will be held March 26 and 27 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Desert Valley, Diamondback and Sunrise elementary schools. Each campus individually customizes its kindergarten enrollment program. Students are screened to determine the best classroom placement for them.
“Parents and guardians should bring their child’s birth certificate, immunization records, proof of residence within the school district (such as a current utility bill), parent or guardian identification, and applicable legal documentation. We need them,” said Jennifer Lott, BCSD director of educational services. “In addition to paperwork for parents, her three schools make the evening fun and engaging for our new kindergartners.”
The Bullhead City Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star has a special “goodie bag” for each new kindergarten enrollee.
Lott added that it's important for families to start the school registration process early rather than waiting until the last minute. For parents, it's also important to know what their child needs to know before starting kindergarten and what changes are happening at school, since older children in the family may have previously registered for kindergarten. It's also an opportunity to find out what happened.
“We often get asked about the August 31st birthday deadline,” she added. “That deadline is set by the state of Arizona, not individual school districts.”
As previously announced, the fall semester for the 2024-2025 BCSD school year will begin July 29 for students in grades Pre-K through 8th after a two-month summer break.
