The project was budgeted as part of the city's FY24 five-year Capital Improvement Plan to create a more cohesive traffic flow in that area of the city.

Ancillary works such as channel, box culvert and water line realignment will be carried out over the coming weeks

During the first phase of the project, traffic impacts should be kept to a minimum. Further updates will be provided once the team begins construction of the new road.

“We're excited to announce that we're excited to announce this new project,” said Acting City Engineer Mike Garmon. “The Eastern Street realignment project will address a number of concerns of staff and residents. We are excited to begin this construction and look forward to completing the project. This project will be on budget and within budget. It is expected to be completed by the end of July.”

The project will be completed in two phases and will include the construction of a new entrance on Airway Avenue.

This will eliminate the need for one-way traffic on North Diamond Street and North Yavapai Street, reducing the impact on neighborhoods.
