One Kingman resident is in custody and another is hospitalized following Monday’s shooting.
Around 4:46 p.m., multiple gunshot calls were received from Kingman’s address, and 22-year-old Darrin Hutchinson is believed to have shot his father during an argument.
According to eyewitness accounts, Hutchinson asked his father to borrow a handgun from his home. Investigators say a physical altercation ensued between the two due to the victim’s refusal. During the struggle, agents say Hutchinson took control of the firearm and shot his father in the abdomen. After firing, Hutchinson allegedly fired several more shots into the air before leaving the scene.
The deputy who responded was found in the nearby washroom where Hutchinson was taken into custody.
Hutchinson was eventually transferred to the Mojave County Jail after an interview with detectives and charged with felonies, including aggravated assault and disorderly conduct with a firearm. The victim was taken to a Las Vegas hospital and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
An investigation into the incident is still ongoing as of Tuesday afternoon.
