Knife-wielding incident leads to arrest
Police in Ventura arrested a 38-year-old man who was allegedly brandishing a knife in a parking lot in Fons on Tuesday afternoon, and at one point threatened several boys.
Officers from the Ventura Police Department responded at approximately 3:20 p.m. at the Fonds Shopping Center on the 6000 block of Telegraph Road on the corner of Victoria Avenue.
The weapon was a cleaver with a blade about four inches long, Cmdr said. Edward Calient.
The suspect approached several boys, cut them and hit one of the female victims in the back. Police said she was not injured.
An alleged vagrant was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Caliento said the agency knows people who have been arrested and convicted multiple times in the past.
Work truck in the city catches fire
The Port Hueneme Police Department reported Monday that a man was arrested on multiple felony charges for setting fire to a public works truck in the city carrying two officers.
The incident began unfolding around 4 p.m. when police were notified that a person was disturbing adults and children at Babbling Springs Park, near the ballpark on Block 1100 of Park Avenue. Two maintenance workers were finishing plumbing work in a park restroom when the man jumped into the truck bed and set it on fire, police said.
After an employee put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, the man drove a short distance down Bird Road and crossed the city line into Oxnard, where he was arrested by police.
The suspect was identified as a 31-year-old male from Oxnard with a history of multiple arrests. The man was arrested on suspicion of felony charges including assault with a deadly weapon, arson and vandalism, police said.
Stalker arrested in connection with explosives
A man who traveled to Thousand Oaks from Arizona last month and allegedly threw a large fireworks display into his ex-girlfriend’s street was arrested Tuesday.
On January 28, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputy received a report of an explosion at Block 100 of South Fallbrook Avenue in Thousand Oaks. Residents told agents that a car had stopped in the street and the driver had dropped an explosive device.
Sheriff Captain Steve Michalek said the device was an M-80, which could be a powerful firecracker, and the suspect threw the device into the gutter. One resident told officials it sounded like a stick of dynamite.
A 50-year-old street woman was allegedly stalked by her ex-boyfriend and suspects him to be the culprit. A 51 year old male lives in Arizona.
Detectives found evidence that the ex-boyfriend was the perpetrator, traveled from Arizona to carry out the act and returned to Arizona after detonating the device. obtained a warrant and sought help from Sheriff’s Department of Pinal County, Arizona to locate the suspect.
On Tuesday, the man was detained on a warrant by Pinal County officials.
