Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem told Fox News Monday that a photo of her standing in front of a cell holding several inmates in El Salvador prison was intended to send a message.
Noem visit Highly safe El Salvador prison on Wednesday. There, she inspected two crowded cell blocks and an armory. She also visited quarantine forces that Venezuelans whom the Trump administration said were members of the gang were in custody after removal from the United States. When featured in “Special Report with Bret Baier,” Noem explained her trip.
In addition to El Salvador, Noem also traveled to Colombia and Mexico. She spoke to presidents of all three countries.
“My job as Secretary of Homeland Security is to secure the United States of America. So I have jurisdiction over everyone who comes and goes in this country, all the products that come and go in this country, everything that happens over the internet. It was very productive to talk to these presidents of these three countries.”

In El Salvador, Noem met with President Naive Buquere and visited the CCOT Prison, a facility designed to house Tren de Aragua and members of MS-13. Noem said the images taken during the prison tour were intentionally shared with the public in order to convey the consequences facing people who threaten the American community.
“People need to see that image. They need to make sure the US uses all the tools that need to make our community safer. That’s the result of those who are terrorists. The president declared Trende Lagua and MS-13 as terrorist organizations. “Touring it and seeing it gave the American people the transparency they wanted from the government. They could see exactly where they were sending the people who murdered and raped the Americans who destroyed the community.”

President Trump and I have a clear message to illegal foreigners of crime. I’m leaving now.
If you don’t leave, we will corner you and arrest you. That way you can go to this El Salvador prison. pic.twitter.com/oitdqnsfxm

“There will be consequences for individuals who continue doing that. My conversation with that president was, ‘Would you take more of these terrorists?’ And he said, “We’ll definitely take the worst and make sure that it’s affecting what they’ve done to your country.”
