Lake Havasu city council members readily agreed to start the meeting a little earlier in the day. However, debates over how city councilors place items on meeting agendas were sometimes controversial before the city council decided not to change that section of the city’s ordinance.
Congress spent about two minutes of Tuesday’s 50-minute hearing, agreeing to change the start time of the meeting from 6:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. night. Several city council members said they would support a 5:00 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. start time, but the city council said it would give people time to move to their meeting rooms after the business day ends. Decided at 5:30pm.
Most of the hearings were spent discussing how city council members would place items on the meeting’s agenda. The city ordinance gives him two options. Create a motion on the “future agenda” section of the City Council, and get the support of another City Council member for that motion. or submit a written request to the mayor, who will work with the mayor to “determine the best course of action to process the request.”
The councilors made multiple proposals on how that process could be adjusted, but after discussion, none of those proposals were put to a vote. Agreed not to change the “Council Requests” section of the Code.
Instead, Congress voted 7-0 to introduce an ordinance dealing only with the proposed time change.
The ordinance has been introduced, but the new start time is not yet official. So the next recurring meeting on March 14th will start at 6:00 pm as usual. The council must hold another public hearing during a future meeting on the proposed ordinance and vote to adopt that time change before it becomes official.
Once a new ordinance is adopted, it usually takes 30 days for it to officially come into force. So if the Council adopts the change at his March 14th meeting, that means that his April 25th meeting of the Council will first begin at 5:30pm. .
