A Lake Havasu City man was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault last month after police say he held a knife to a woman's throat in the 2100 block of Birch Square.
The incident reportedly occurred on Jan. 9 at a hotel in the 2100 block of Birch Square. According to the victim's statement, the victim and Michael C. Faria, 46, had been drinking at the scene, during which time the two got into an argument.
During the altercation, Faria slammed a beer can into the victim's head, causing the victim to fall backwards, police said. Police said Faria then held a 7-inch knife to the victim's throat and told him, “I'm going to kill you.”
The victim eventually fled the scene and contacted emergency dispatchers from the building lobby. The victim told police that her life was in danger because Faria was serving a prison sentence for a previous domestic violence charge.
Officers were unable to contact Faria at the scene, but spoke by phone on January 10th. During that conversation, Faria reportedly agreed to speak with officers at the scene.
Police took Faria into custody that day, and officers reportedly found a folding knife in Faria's possession at the time of his arrest.
When questioned by detectives, Faria reportedly denied holding the knife to the victim's throat.
Faria was charged with felonies including false imprisonment, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and disorderly conduct with a deadly weapon.
His most recent hearing in Mojave Superior Court occurred at an arraignment on January 25th.
As of Monday, Faria was being held in the Mohave County Jail on $5,000 bail.
