A Lake Havasu City man appeared in Mojave Superior Court last week for a pretrial conference after being arraigned in February on charges including kidnapping and three counts of aggravated assault.
Kenneth M. Sailey, 27, was arrested after investigators said he assaulted and attempted to strangle the mother of a 4-year-old child. He appears in court on March 30, awaiting trial on charges related to an alleged violent confrontation at his Drive-In Winter Haven residence.
The incident began on February 9, when Lake Havasu City police officers were summoned to an address on Winter Haven Drive after a domestic violence incident was reported. According to eyewitness statements, the victim was the mother of her four-year-old child in Cyree.
Police said the victim tried to drop the child off at Sairee’s home, but the child was upset. According to police reports, the child did not want to be with his father. The victim allegedly tried to leave with the child, but investigators say Cyree grabbed the victim to prevent him from doing so.
According to reports, Cyree grabbed the victim’s neck and threw him into the house while he was carrying the child in his arms. Sairee reportedly hit her victim twice with her knee before he tried to flee.Police said the victim ran out of her house through Ms. Sairee’s front door. When she tried to leave, Sairee said she grabbed her with a kitchen knife.
Police said Cyree grabbed the victim’s throat again and pushed him against a nearby wall. Sailey reportedly pressed the victim’s throat until he could not breathe, then released it.
According to the victim’s statement to police, Cyree said he needed to talk to the victim and threatened to commit suicide if she left. , Cyree grabbed her face and gave her a nosebleed.
The victim reportedly fled Sairee at the time and fled his home.
According to the police report, responding officers observed visible injuries that seemed to support her statement.
Officers attempted to reach Sailey by phone and at his home on February 9, but were unable to locate him at the time.
Sailey was wanted for questioning in the case until Feb. 11, when he was reportedly identified as a passenger during a civil traffic stop. Sairee was taken into custody at the scene and transferred to the Lake Havasu City Jail. According to police, Cyree refused to speak to detectives about the incident without the presence of an attorney, who was initially held on his $5,000 bail filed on Feb. 22.
His next appearance in the Mojave Superior Court is scheduled for April 27 at the status conference and Donald’s hearing of the case.
