Lake Havasu City teen arrested in slaying of Mesa man

A 19-year-old boy from Lake Havasu City was arrested Thursday in the murder of a Mesa man earlier this week.

On Wednesday, Mesa police officers responded to reports of shootings at homes near Broadway and Power Road in Mesa.

When officers arrived shortly after 7:30 p.m., they located 44-year-old Jacques Bourdeaux inside the home where he had been shot. Mesa Police said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers spoke to witnesses at the home and learned that a young man, later identified as 19-year-old Elliott Bennett, came to the residence after contacting Bourdeaux by phone. A shot was fired at the house, and Bourdeau hid in the bathroom with another person and ran into the house.

A witness told officers that Bennett forced his way into the house and bathroom, shot Bulldore multiple times while witnesses watched, and then fled in a gray sedan, police said.

After viewing camera footage and following a report from Bennett’s parents of a stolen gray sedan car, officers arrested Bennett at his residence in Lake Havasu City on Thursday and put him in jail, police said. rice field.

Bennett is currently being held on $1 million bail on multiple charges, including first-degree murder, aggravated assault with a lethal weapon, and first-degree robbery.
