The Lake Havasu High School girls tennis team opened its season Tuesday with a home match against the Coconino Panthers.
“Our first match was a great walk-through. Coconino is a small tennis program, so we had no worries. Our varsity team won the match 9-0, losing in total It was only four games,” head coach Andrew Maurer said. “Our team performed well and was lucky to finish the first match easily.”
The JV team also had some solid games, which were highlights for Maurer.
“Our JV team performed well and played quite a few games,” he said. “I don’t think JV lost, but we had to cut two close games while we were tied because (Coconino) had to go back to Flagstaff.”
The Knights' next game is today at home against Flagstaff at 3:30 p.m. The team has an offensive strategy planned and needs to be confident.
“Flagstaff is going to be a tough game. We need to come into the game with confidence and play to win, not play not to lose,” Maurer said. “If we want to beat a great program like Flagstaff, our team has to go into that game with an offensive strategy.”
