The Lake Havasu High School track and field team hosted their final competition of the season on Wednesday, the 14th Annual Lake Havasu Last Chance Competition. Knights hosted a senior night after his 400m race of his 25 seniors, as this is the last home competition of the season.
“There were 21 people who walked and I think a few people forgot to give a speech. But I think 24 or 25 overall and I’m proud,” coach Tanner Kelly said. Told. “In the last two years of his life, they have come this far. I am very proud of their efforts because there are so many.”
Many athletes set up PRs during competition as they work toward state qualification.
“Giovanni Sierras pbs in the pole vault, Presley Evans pbs in all three events today, Thayer Farley pbs her events, women’s 4×100 slumps to 50.71 and breaks records again,” Kelly said. said. “I know Silvan (Osman) threw a big throw on the discus and did a 10 foot PR. It was a really good day for us.”
Senior Evans set new personal bests in all three events. She was happy about it, but sad that the season is coming to an end.
“I’ve done PR in the 100m hurdles, 4×100 and 300m hurdles, so I’m very happy,” she said. “It’s sad indeed, but I want to go to college. So I’m going to keep my job, but I miss my team. We’re all so tight, I miss everyone’s social side.”
The Knights have one more chance before a sectional at Becky Matthews’ Last Chance Invitational on Wednesday at Desert Vista.
“With the best teams and athletes in the state coming up, we need a little improvement to secure a spot. Some of our events are on the brink of qualifying,” Kelly said. At this time of year, all schools are doing self-promotion and running last-chance events, so we need to make sure we have a good week of practice, listen to our coaches to prepare, and be ready. There’s a good show next Wednesday. We’ll play the waiting game as the state calculates and tallies which individuals go to the state.I’m happy with the work the kids are doing this year.”
