London Bridge in Lake Havasu City.
The London Bridge in Lake Havasu City hasn't collapsed, but it needs help. Authorities are planning a new bridge to reach the city's island.
The infamous London Bridge has always been a major attraction in the Lake Havasu area since it was brought in from London in the 1960s.
“The iconic, world-famous London Bridge is an unmistakably modern bridge with a London Bridge facade,” Mayor Cal Sheehy said.
Mr Sheehy said the time was right for an expansion to ensure people continued to have access to shops and restaurants on the city's islands. “For safety reasons, we want to have a redundant road system that allows for both directions on and off the bridge,” Mr Sheehy said.
The new system is expected to take two to three years to complete, and Arizona has so far secured $35 million for the project.
The open house will be held on Monday, January 29th from 5:30-7:30pm at the Lake Havasu City Community Center, 100 Park Ave, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86403.
