Lake Havasu City — The streets of Lake Havasu City are quickly lined with artists exhibiting their work and showing art lovers how to do it on the second annual Havasu Art Trail this weekend.
After the pandemic wiped out the city’s previously established studio tours, a group of local artists came together to create the nonprofit-turned-Havasu Art Trail to fill the gap.
With various artist groups set up throughout the town, residents can move around as they please, meeting artists, viewing works, and watching demonstrations.
What makes this event unique is the opportunity for consumers to interact directly with artists. This is a luxury not often afforded by the usual art his gallery structure.
“Our goal as a nonprofit is to raise awareness of Lake Havasu artists. There are places around Sedona and Arizona that are famous for their art, but Havasu is not.” Nonprofit Director . “So we try to get people to come out on the trails, meet the artists, see what they can do, and use the website throughout the year to keep in touch with them.”
This year, 65 artists will be set up at 27 different locations around the city, taking from last year’s inaugural event’s 49 artists at 21 spots.
Due to the increase in participating artists, organizers have extended the time of the event to maximize the chances of attendees being able to attend all the artists. If time is a concern, preview the artists on the website to narrow down the artists you want to visit along the trail.
“So these artists meet the public, build relationships with them, and keep our art funding in this town,” Gibbs said.
Although showers and strong winds are expected on Saturday, Gibbs hopes the event, which saw more than 400 attendees, continues to be successful despite last year’s cold weather.
“We expect more attendees this year. It’s just going to get a little wet,” Gibbs said.
This year’s event will take place on Saturday, February 25th from 8am to 5pm and on Sunday, February 26th from 10am to 4pm. HavasuArtTrail.com.
