Large-scale cleanup underway after storm rips through Yuma

YUMA, Colo. (KDVR) — High winds, baseball-sized hail and heavy rain Monday night kept crews busy Tuesday boarding up broken windows across the city of Yuma.

“Last night all of the windows on the west side and the north side were broken and I flew out of the house. It was very scary,” Tasha Keene said.

Numerous cars in the area sustained hail damage and stained glass windows at a local church were destroyed.

“The window in my room was broken, then the kitchen was broken. It was total chaos. It was very scary,” Ivan Rico said.

Rico's family was busy Tuesday clearing the roof and other debris while they waited for the insurance adjuster.

One of the most shocking scenes was at Cobblestone Inn & Suites, with nearly all of its siding peeling away from its front building. Nearby roads were flooded and the water was rising around Quality Irrigation.

“We're closed for pretty much a day,” said Rob Harding, the company's president. “I grew up here and I've seen a lot of hailstorms, but I've never seen one that lasted this long and caused this much damage.”
