Lawmakers Criticize Trump’s FDA for Secretly Approving New Abortion Pill

Numerous GOP lawmakers expressed strong disapproval of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) following its recent actions regarding abortion medications on Thursday.

This wave of criticism arrived after the FDA approved new abortion pills produced by Evita Solutions, a company that aims “to normalize abortion care” and “ensure that care is accessible to everyone.”

“This is shocking,” remarked Republican Senator Josh Hawley from Missouri. He stated that evidence suggests chemical abortion drugs pose significant risks, even fatal ones, for mothers. “The FDA has just greenlighted another chemical abortion drug, which is certainly deadly for children,” he added. Hawley further criticized the FDA for failing to conduct a thorough safety review of chemical abortion drugs, saying, “I’ve lost confidence in FDA leadership.” He highlighted that the drug is a new generic variant of mifepristone and is intended for use up to the 70th day of pregnancy, according to the FDA.

He also pointed out the company’s political stance regarding gender ideology, adding, “[T]he FDA, which just approved more abortion medications, seems to deny the very existence of ‘women.'”

Evita Solutions claims that everyone should have access to safe, effective, and affordable abortion services, regardless of various factors like race, gender, or income.

Republican Representative Riley Moore from West Virginia called for Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty McCurry to “reverse the course soon.” He emphasized, “[c]hemical abortion kills children and harms mothers.”

Another GOP member, Representative Mark Harris, expressed disbelief over the FDA’s decision to approve mifepristone amidst a recent safety investigation. He questioned why the approval occurred at this time.

In a recent investigation, Kennedy announced he would examine the risks associated with mifepristone. In a letter to 22 GOP state attorney generals dated September 19, McCurry stated that his agency was reviewing evidence concerning the drug’s safety and effectiveness.

On the other hand, Democratic Senator Patty Murray from Washington stressed that mifepristone remains safe and effective, emphasizing that the data shows as much.

Former Vice President Mike Pence also weighed in, reiterating his long-standing opposition to Kennedy’s appointment and stressing that this recent approval represents a betrayal of the pro-life movement. He insisted that President Trump should reverse the decision quickly and appoint a new HHS secretary who values the sanctity of life.

As of now, Evita Solutions, along with the offices of Senators Hawley and Murray and Representative Moore, did not respond immediately to requests for comments.
