WASHINGTON – US senators from both parties wrote to representative social security committees Thursday, expressing concerns that it may take more than a year to implement the profit expansion that Congress approved last year.
“The Social Security Equity Act provides full social security benefits for millions of teachers, police officers, firefighters and other civil servants who are unfairly punished by Windfall Elimination Pridement (WEP) and Government Pension Settlement (GPO). I’ll recover,” wrote 28 senators. “We are calling for immediate enforcement of this law to provide prompt relief to millions of Americans affected by WEP and GPOs.”
The senator then asked Commissioner Michelle King to provide Congress with a “monthly updates and briefing” on how government agencies are implementing new laws.

There is no estimated time frame
I have a Social Security Bureau web page There are answers to new laws and some questions about how the agency is trying to implement changes to its benefits.
According to the webpage, the agency “cannot provide estimated time yet as to when to adjust a person’s past or future profits, but we will continue to provide updates on this webpage. We appreciate your patience.”
The webpage also explains how new laws can be applied to those who have never filed Social Security benefits for Windfall Elimination provisions or government pension offsets.
The Social Security Administration did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the state newsroom for details on why it will take a year to implement.
meeting Voted on a broad, bipartisan basis late last year to approve a bill to make changes President Joe Biden then signed it to the law. January.
Pension offsets affect approximately 746,000 Americans, while windfall regulations affect 2.1 million people. Report From the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service, which includes a map showing the concentration of people affected by two previous regulations.
