Alabama House Speaker Nathaniel Leadbetter appointed Rep. Margie Wilcox (R-Mobile) to the Energy Council's Executive Committee.
The Energy Council is a bipartisan legislative body comprised of 15 energy-producing states in the U.S. and two Canadian provinces. Founded in 1975, the Council serves as a forum for dialogue on energy and related environmental policies.
Rep. Wilcox's strong track record representing coastal energy state Alabama contributed significantly to Speaker Ledbetter's decision to appoint her to the Executive Committee, the Speaker's office reported.
“As the landscape surrounding energy-related issues in our state and nation continues to evolve, the importance of the Energy Council's multistate collaboration becomes increasingly clear,” said House Speaker Nathaniel Leadbetter (R-Rainsville).
“Alabama is a significant contributor to U.S. energy, and it is critical that our state maintain a strong presence on the Council. Having represented coastal Alabama's energy powerhouse for the past decade, Rep. Wilcox brings a wealth of knowledge that will be of great benefit to the Council. I have no doubt she will work hard to ensure our state continues to play a role in shaping energy policy. I am proud to appoint her to this important position.”
Wilcox will serve on the Executive Committee along with Rep. Philip Pettus, State Sen. Gerald Allen and State Sen. Andrew Jones.
“This is a great honor and responsibility, and I am honored that Chairman Leadbetter has deemed me worthy of such an important position,” said Rep. Wilcox. “I look forward to aggressively representing Alabama in Congress and doing all I can to advance commonsense energy policy.”
