During discussion of the legislative package for Alabama, House Speaker Nathaniel Leadbetter said the bill would serve a wide range of Alabamians.
“Session after session, lawmakers have come together to pass pro-business legislation that helps Alabamians thrive,” Leadbetter said. “We can't rest on our laurels; there's still a lot of work to be done, and the 'Work for Alabama' Act is the next step.”
“We're trying to make our state a better place to live. We're addressing the critical issues facing our workforce, developing strategies and education plans to prepare high school students for high-demand jobs. And we're overcoming the rising cost of child care to help parents return to work.”

Earlier this month, lawmakers passed and endorsed a six-bill package in one or both chambers: the Alabama Workforce Housing Tax Credit, the Child Care Tax Credit, the Alabama Growth Alliance Act, the Alabama Workforce Transformation Act and the Alabama Career Pathways Act.
Alabama's child care tax credit is scheduled to be considered by the Senate Finance, Taxation and Education Fund Committee later this week.

Leadbetter held a press conference with bill sponsor State Sen. Garlan Guger (R-Cullman), business leaders and supporters to urge passage of the working parent tax credit, which was unanimously approved by the House.
Several bills, including the Alabama Growth Alliance Act, the Alabama Career Pathways Act and the Workforce Transformation Act, have all been approved by the state Legislature and are awaiting Governor Kay Ivey's signature.
Tuesday marks the 26th day of the 2024 state legislative session.
