Longtime soap opera star Ron Hale died on August 27 at the age of 78.
Mr. Hale died in St. George, South Carolina, where he had retired after 50 years of impressing fans with his acting talent. News of his death surfaced Wednesday night and was confirmed in an online obituary posted by Bryant Funeral Home.
Hale is best known for playing Mike Corbin, the father of gangster Sonny Corinthos, on ABC’s “General Hospital.” His long-running role lasted from 1995 to 2010.

Hale’s soap opera family shared a touching tribute to Hale on social media on Oct. 3.
“The entire General Hospital family is saddened to hear of the passing of Ron Hale,” they wrote.
“We would like to extend our condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time. He was a wonderful actor and an unforgettable colleague.”
The cast and staff of “General Hospital” bid farewell while writhing, saying, “May he rest in peace.”

Hale appeared on ABC’s “Ryan’s Hope” from 1975 to 1989, among many other credits. Hale also lent his talents to several plays at the Trustas Theater in South Carolina, which was founded by his brother and sister-in-law. According to the obituary. He also appeared in The Lord Protector and guest starred in the films Search for Tomorrow, MacGyver, and Matlock.
The talented actor played Watergate robber Frank Sturgis in the 1976 political film The President’s Men, which centered on the Washington Post’s coverage of the Watergate scandal. Hale starred opposite Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford in the critically acclaimed, Academy Award-nominated film. USA Today.

Fans and fellow stars have taken to social media to pay tribute to Hale and his many contributions to the world of entertainment.

His survivors include nieces and nephews, Lori Brown (Janet Brabham), Max Brabham, Erin Wilson (Lawrence), and Mark Brown (Betsy). His family called on fans to plant a tree in his memory to keep his legacy alive.
