Legislature works to allow 100% hand counts in AZ elections

A bill being passed through Congress proposes to allow Arizona election officials to conduct 100% hand counts of ballots cast in elections.

Republican Rep. Gail Griffin is the primary sponsor of the bill. The measure gives the county official in charge of the election, the county registrar, or another official designated by the county board of oversight the authority to fully count the ballots cast in the election.

The bill has passed the House and is awaiting a vote in the Senate.

Griffin represents District 19, which includes Cochise, Graham, Santa Cruz and Greenlee counties.
