‘Lethal force’ used as police serve arrest warrant in Arizona

The incident occurred while detectives were executing an arrest warrant for drug trafficking. The 45-year-old suspect died.

YAVAPAI COUNTY, Ariz. — Yavapai County Sheriff's Office detectives and Prescott Police officers used “deadly force” while attempting to execute an arrest warrant on Castle Canyon Mesa Wednesday afternoon.

YCSO said members of the YCSO Rapid Response Team attempted to take into custody 45-year-old Aaron R. Nielson, who was wanted on suspicion of trafficking fentanyl.

While at a home on Prescott East Highway, Nielson allegedly brandished a weapon and ignored police commands, after which two officers shot and killed him.

YCSO said Neilson died from his injuries.

No officers were injured, and YCSO said it would not release any further information about the incident because the Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating.
