I just want to say it right away: I do do not have I agree with Sean McDonough.
ESPN broadcaster Sean McDonough will call the game for the NHL 4 Nations Face Off title game on Thursday, but he has plead to the Americans before the game.
McDonough spoke about expectations about Americans who could retaliate against Canadians for booing “starspanged banners” during the showdown.
The ESPN broadcaster, who appeared on WEEI on Tuesday, said he was full of hope as he would show up to support the US hockey team when he plays Boston’s Canada. (Related: USA’s Matthew Tkachuk responds to Canadian garbage talk in the most exclusive way ever, and we’re getting this for sure)
“I hope the crowds of the house have a lot to do with it,” McDonough said.
However, McDonough also pleaded with the Americans. Don’t boo the Canadian national anthem. What Canadians have done about our national anthem over and over, NHL games, NBA games.
“I really hope that our people don’t boo the national anthem, let’s get better than that,” McDonough said.
“I think we all respect what Canada’s great country is. The political situation that has led Canadians recently – the national anthem booing is a very recent development. I know why. I think so. I understand that from their perspective, especially being there for a few days.”
