Letter to the Editor: Stop proposed mine threatening Williams safety | Williams-Grand Canyon News

The City of Williams, along with Coconino County and the U.S. Forest Service, has invested significant time and money into mitigating the potential wildfires on Bill Williams Mountain and the subsequent flooding caused by this event.

A 2018 Northern Arizona Alliance Bank Economic Policy Institute study stated, “Post-wildfire flooding models show that moderate monsoon rainfall following wildfires causes flooding, leaving the City of Williams with up to six feet of flooding and debris.” It suggests that there is a possibility of covering.” Flooding like this will shut down Interstate 40 and his BNSF railroad, and shut down the Grand Canyon railroad indefinitely….”

Open pit mining will certainly increase urban devastation and health and safety. Do you think Drake Cement and its Scottsdale-based parent company Skanon, Inc. really care about our small town and its corporate bottom line? Think I have? I don’t. I think they file for bankruptcy and close the door in a heartbeat.

Stop this madness!
