Lexington baseball won the SC Diamond Invitational on Saturday for the first time in over a decade.
The Wildcats defeated hosts Blythewood, 7-3, to win the SCDI for the second time. Another one of his title games for Lexington in 2012.
The Bengals were chasing a third consecutive title.
South Carolina committed that Brandon Cromer hit a two-run homer and Brayden Jeffcourt gave the Wildcats three hits and two RBIs. Jeff Court hit his three-run homer big in Friday’s Class 2A No. 1 team victory over his Oceanside college eight.
Tyler Floyd added two hits and earned tournament MVP honors. The College of Charleston signatories went 7-for-14 in the tournament, and in the four-day event he pitched two scoreless innings.
Lexington jumped out to a 2–0 lead first on Cromer’s two-run homer. The Wildcats added four more in his third to take a 6–0 lead. Landon Knight, Jeff Court, and Will Burgess all had RBIs in the inning.
Cromer scored the win for the Wildcats.
Landon Penfield, Alex Myers, and John Rawlings each had an RBI for Blythewood.
Lexington will face Charlotte Christian on Wednesday and conclude the regular season with a three-game series against Dutch Folk the following week. The Wildcats are still alive for the Region 4-5A Championship.
Brycewood will play Rock Hill in a three-game series starting Monday.
