Liberal Corporate Culture Takes A Drubbing From Comedian Invited To Make The Empty Suits Feel Good

At a corporate event on Sept. 19, San Francisco's empty-headed officials got their justified response when comedian John Mulaney launched into a tirade against those who'd invited him.

Mulaney pulled no punches when it came to mocking AI, consultant-esque buzzwords, and techno-utopians who think the future will be better because of their “products.” According to In the San Francisco Standard. “A lot of you know in your bones that you're working on a so-so product, but you're glossing over it and making up words to make it sound better than it actually is,” Mulaney reportedly told one audience member.

The comedian also criticized all the fake corporate job openings that have popped up out of nowhere in the wake of COVID-19, such as “VP of Customer Success.”

“Are you the VP of Customer Success?” he asked another attendee. “Congratulations on having a title that didn’t exist five years ago!”

“You seem like the group that saw the self-checkout counter at CVS and thought, 'This is the future,'” Mullaney joked.

“If AI is really smarter than humans, [humans] “If we have to die, we have to die,” he said. “Many of you feel that you are easily replaceable.”

“Can an AI sit there in a fleece vest? Can an AI spend all day in a bar without going to an event?” he added.

I admire John Mulaney for having the guts to attack the incompetent people hosting him. He could have taken his show in a variety of directions. He could have spent half the time making fun of Trump. He could have simply spouted liberal platitudes and made trite jokes about a crazy election year. Instead, he hit Silicon Valley in the heart of Silicon Valley, where it hurts.
