Turek recounted a frantic journey to the hospital, feeling helpless as circumstances unfolded. “I was on the right side of the car, trying to help Charlie, but they were dragging him. I opened the back gate and jumped back—then the car lurched forward. I almost fell out,” he explained, emphasizing the chaos of the moment.
As they rushed to the hospital, the vehicle was overcrowded, making it difficult to close the door. Turek painted a chaotic picture of their emotional struggle. “With five people in the car—the driver, folks trying to help Charlie—we drove with the door open for four miles. Honestly, I have no idea how Brian stayed in,” he noted, illustrating the frantic atmosphere.
Throughout the trip, they attempted to stop the bleeding while others prayed fervently. “We started CPR, but Charlie wasn’t present; his gaze was distant. He seemed to slip away,” Turek said, recalling the urgency and desperation of those moments.
Upon reaching the hospital, they learned Charlie Kirk had died. “He had a pulse initially because he was fit, but the wound was lethal. Later, the surgeon came out and confirmed it: he was gone,” Turek shared, deeply affected by the loss.
The authorities revealed that the shooter had targeted Kirk from the roof of UVU’s Losee Center and fled the scene afterward. The FBI initiated a manhunt for the suspect, identified as Tyler Robinson, sharing surveillance photos in the process.
Details emerged about Robinson, who had a complex personal life, including a relationship with a roommate who had transitioned. Reports indicated that Robinson had sent a concerning message prior to the shooting, indicating an intent to attack Kirk.
