The federal government is extending financial assistance to businesses impacted by the wildfires raging near the northern edge of the Grand Canyon.
The U.S. Small Business Administration has authorized low-interest economic disaster loans for eligible small businesses and private nonprofits that have seen economic setbacks due to the Dragon Bravo and White Sage fires.
During a visit to the Dragon Bravo Fire location last month, Governor Katie Hobbs emphasized the importance of supporting these businesses in their recovery efforts.
“Clearly, this area attracts a lot of tourists,” she mentioned. “While South Rim gets a bulk of the visitors, it’s crucial to support the local businesses here—concessionaires and contractors—because that’s their livelihood.”
Hobbs commended the move to issue Arizona’s Economic Injury Disaster Declaration, which enables loans for the affected businesses. “Those working hard in Arizona to provide jobs to their community should know that we’re here for them,” she expressed. “That’s why we’re unlocking essential financial support to help businesses bounce back and support strong families and workers in Arizona. I’m thankful for the assistance from the U.S. Small Business Administration.”
The loan program is available for eligible businesses in Coconino, Gila, Mohave, Navajo, and Yavapai counties, including those on tribal lands of the Navajo, Hopi, Havasupai, Hualapai, and San Juan Southern Paiute nations.
According to the SBA, applications for financial injury must be submitted by May 18, 2026.
