TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) – State and local leaders will gather in downtown Tucson this week to address gun control across Arizona.
Leaders will propose several changes to current law, including:
- Give local leaders more flexibility in enacting gun control policies.
- Protect your school or institution from known threats
- Keep guns out of the hands of prohibited owners
Back in August 2022, the Pima County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution repealing a state law that prevents local governments from addressing gun violence.
Just a few months later, University of Arizona professor Dr. Thomas Meixner was shot and killed on campus. Some Pima County leaders believe the shootings could have been prevented if Arizona had a red flag law.
Friday's meeting is scheduled to be held at the Pima County Historical Courthouse. Arizona Congresswoman Nancy Gutierrez, Pima County Attorney Laura Conover, and Pima County Supervisor Rex Scott are all scheduled to speak during the meeting.
