Local authorities respond to active shooting situation

UPDATE (2:52 p.m.) – Sam Kirk is live from the scene, providing the latest information on the shooting in the Foothills.

UPDATE (1:55 p.m.) – The Yuma Police Department and Yuma County Sheriff’s Office are telling people it will be a while before they get home.

UPDATE (1:30 p.m.) – A reporter on the scene says a SWAT team is present and smoke is also coming from a home in the area. It’s unclear exactly whether the smoke was caused by the fire or tear gas.

Neighbor Mark Larsen said he heard about 10 to 12 shots fired, but couldn’t say exactly where they came from.

Other neighbors we spoke to said they heard gunshots before police arrived.

At least two people are believed to have been detained.
