YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – Summer is in full swing and hot temperatures are expected this Independence Day weekend.
Rural Metro Fire said it was gearing up for the summer and was taking extra measures in case of heat stroke calls.
This includes stockpiling troops with water and medical supplies so that firefighters are ready to go.
“If there’s a fire, a long medical call, or people are going out for a while, we’ll have cold water on hand, and we’ll carry all the shade structures, the fans for the calls, the cooling cloths, etc. We have at our fingertips as much information as we can to keep our personnel safe,” said Kurt Nelson of Rural Metro Fire.
Rural Metro has already received eight heat-related health consultations this summer.
Dehydration is a serious fever problem and can lead to emergencies if left untreated.
Especially if you do some activity outdoors.
Health experts advise drinking plenty of water to prevent heat stroke.
“When our bodies start to lose water internally, we may not be aware of it, but when we start to feel thirsty, it’s actually too late, which means we start to feel thirsty. It means that your internal organs are already dehydrated,” he said. Uche Orekamma of the Blue Cross Blue Shield, Arizona.
Drinking fluids with electrolytes is also highly recommended.
