YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – The Farm Machinery Contest consisted of six different local high schools competing in nine different contests.
“Honest experience. The best thing about farming is getting experience from what you can do and from people who can do it,” said Gila Ridge Farm Mechanics FFA member Lillie Beck. Ta.
This event is held three times a year and tests students' knowledge in agriculture-related fields.
During the competition, students were tasked with welding and assembling various forms of equipment.
“Right behind me, I have students competing in farm mechanics. They are demonstrating skills and abilities such as woodworking and pipe welding,” said Tosha Gillispie, agricultural program director. Ta.
Beck also talked about why events like what happened Friday morning are so important to her.
Each of these events is a qualifying event for the state FFA Career and Leadership event to be held in Tucson on February 23rd and 24th.
