PHOENIX (KYMA, KECY) – The Arizona House of Representatives hosted a special joint session on the border situation Wednesday.
Yuma County Sheriff Leon Wilmot and Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels briefed state lawmakers on the situation at the southern border.
Both elected officials shared the struggles facing their respective departments and thanked members of Congress for their continued support and resources.
Despite the ongoing fight against Mexican cartels crossing the border, Sheriff Wilmot was asked if he thought gaps in the border wall needed to be filled.
“Yes, finishing the fence will help. The hard infrastructure was already there. In Yuma, we're only 11 miles away from completion. All electronics, cameras, sensors, etc. were also shut down.” Yuma County Sheriff Wilmot said.
The special joint session was requested by Yuma state Rep. Tim Dunn (R-Ariz.), according to the state House of Representatives.
