Loftis Steel & Aluminum Expands to Decatur, Alabama
Loftis Steel & Aluminum, a family-owned steel manufacturer from Nashville, Tennessee, is making strides with a new high-tech facility in Decatur, investing $6.5 million. This expansion is expected to create 20 jobs in Limestone County, bolstering Alabama’s reputation in advanced manufacturing.
Specializing in custom metal components for various commercial and industrial needs, the Alabama site will feature cutting-edge technologies like fiber lasers and precision cutting systems. “We chose Decatur because it’s strategically close to our Nashville operation,” shared Tom Russell, the president and CEO. He noted that this move will enable them to better serve the growing market in Northern Alabama.
By introducing innovative capabilities in Decatur, Loftis aims to enhance its service to local clients while supporting supply chains for significant industries. The new jobs will offer competitive wages, averaging around $28 per hour, contributing positively to the workforce in one of the state’s rapidly growing industrial areas.
Ellen McNair, secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce, expressed enthusiasm about Loftis’s arrival. She mentioned that this project encapsulates the blend of innovation, craftsmanship, and opportunity defining Alabama’s manufacturing landscape. “We’re excited to welcome Loftis to Limestone County,” she added.
This new facility will further solidify Alabama’s position as a hub for precision manufacturing and skilled labor. Loftis is among a growing number of companies opting for North Alabama thanks to its strong infrastructure, workforce potential, and favorable business climate.
Community Response
Local officials, including Mayor Tabb, greeted Loftis’s expansion plans warmly. “This investment aligns perfectly with the growth we’re seeing in Northern Alabama,” he remarked. He emphasized that Loftis’s decision to set up shop in the area highlights the strength of the workforce and quality infrastructure.
Colin Daly, chairman of the Limestone County Commission, noted that the company’s investment would leave a significant impact. “This $6.5 million investment and the creation of 20 new jobs reflect the appeal for high-quality manufacturers in our region,” he said, adding that it strengthens the area’s industrial base and shows confidence in the skilled workforce.
