A Georgia Row employee was fired after trying to stop three shoplifters who allegedly stole $2,100 worth of merchandise, police said.
Donna Hunsbrough, 68, was working at Lowe’s on June 25 when three suspects entered the store and “loaded multiple items into a shopping cart and left without paying for the items,” police said.
“Donna Hansbrough grabbed a shopping cart and attempted to stop one of the subjects. Hansbrough did not come into contact with anyone. The cart Donna grabbed belonged to subject Takiya Berry,” police said. “After Donna grabbed the cart, Berry punched Donna three times in the face, causing Donna’s right eye to swell and turn black. The total value of the stolen goods was $2,101.00. The two male subjects were identified as Jarmer Lawton and Joseph Berry. Joseph and Takiya are an uncle and niece.”
Mr Hansbrough is said to have been fired for trying to thwart the robbery. Laws said her actions were a “policy violation.”

Police say Takiya Berry and her uncle Joseph Berry are both on the run.
A Kansas woman had a similar experience while working at Lowe’s in 2016. Norma Hayden reportedly said she tried to stop a man from stealing a chainsaw and chased him to grab her power tools. KWCH12. Other customers reportedly began intervening as well, prompting Hayden to call authorities. Hayden later told the media he was told by a human resources officer that he should have his manager call authorities before he was fired.
A Lowe’s spokesperson told the outlet the company’s policy on dealing with shoplifters is to keep customers and employees safe.
