Lt. Gov. Ainsworth appoints Catherine Gayle Fuller as chief of staff

Alabama Lieutenant Governor Names New Chief of Staff

On Thursday, the lieutenant governor of Alabama announced that Katherine Gale Fuller will be taking over as his new chief of staff.

Ainsworth praised Fuller, stating, “She has gained significant experience during her time at both the governor’s office and my office, making her uniquely qualified for the role.” He added, “Katherine Gale, a true conservative guided by her faith, is one of the most intelligent policy minds I know. Her expertise in shaping policy discussions will assist us in pursuing our agenda, as we aim to improve our great state even further.”

Fuller’s appointment follows the departure of Jess Skaggs, who previously held the chief of staff position. Skaggs is set to start at Senate Speaker Pro Tem Garlan Gudger’s office later this month, replacing Tim Howe, the former chief of staff. Recently, he also announced a new role overseeing ForgePac’s protection program.

Ainsworth acknowledged Skaggs, saying, “He is an incredibly loyal employee and has played a significant role in our successes. His knowledge of the senator and the legislative process will be invaluable for Gudger, just as it was for me.”

Fuller joined Ainsworth’s office in 2023 as a Deputy Chief of Staff, where she has focused on overseeing policy initiatives.

Previously, she served as the Director of Appointments for Governor Kay Ivey and worked as a Senior Policy Advisor at the Alabama Department of Revenue. Fuller holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in political science from Samford University and the University of Alabama, as well as a PhD.

Ainsworth expressed confidence in Fuller’s abilities, stating, “Katherine Gale Fuller is one of the brightest policy minds I know. She has the skill to guide conversations on critical issues impacting Alabamians statewide.” In a post announcing her appointment, Ainsworth mentioned, “She will excel as my new Chief of Staff in the Lieutenant Governor’s office.”

As of now, Fuller has chosen not to comment on her new role.
