Lumberjack Cross Country Takes First Place in Big Sky Preseason Rankings

Cross-Country Program Leads the Way in Big Sky Conference

Flagstaff, Arizona (August 18, 2025) – The boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams from Northern Arizona University are set to start the 2025 season under the Big Sky Conference banner, following a suspension last fall.

A preseason poll released on Monday showed both Lumberjack teams in the top spot. The women’s team received all 10 first-place votes, while the men’s team secured nine out of ten.

The NAU women are aiming for their seventh consecutive Big Sky Championship. They previously achieved a remarkable 15-point score at Pocatello, which certainly boosts their confidence as they begin this season.

For the men, they have claimed four consecutive meeting titles since 2021. Last season, they managed to score 25 points and dominated the league with six runners finishing in the top 10.

Notably, both the men’s and women’s programs have now held championships for four straight years.

In the voting, Montana came in second for both the men’s and women’s teams, while Weber State and Idaho rounded out the top four.
