Magic of Mexican Artistry March 10-12 at Superstition Mountain Museum

Superstition Mountain Museum, 4087 E. Apache Trail (State Route 88), celebrates Mexican art with three free events March 10-12 from 9am to 4pm. It will be held.

The museum grounds, patios, and barns feature some of Mexico’s finest artisans. Meet potters, woodcarvers, painters, weavers and silversmiths, according to the release.

Artists include Mata Ortiz ceramists Lila Silveira, Trini Silveira and Elvira Bugarini, Oaxacan painters and woodcarvers Giulia Fuentes and Almond Jimenez, Mata Ortiz silversmith Yesenia Salgado, Zapotec master weaver Porfirio Gutierrez. Visitors are delighted with live demonstrations of their craft and the sale of their creations. They have traveled miles to exhibit here and have included internationally recognized and award-winning artists. Their work is sought after by collectors around the world.

This free event is family-friendly, educational, and offers great photo opportunities and shopping opportunities. Visitor parking is also free.

A fundraising event is also scheduled for Friday, March 10, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The museum welcomes sculptor, muralist, storyteller and performer Zarco Guerrero to his presentation of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Expect hilarious and moving stories. It features original characters including the poetry-spewing ‘El Vato Poeta’, the flirtatious ‘La Comadre’, the clueless ‘Special Ed’, the wise ‘El Abuelito’, and other beloved roles Zarco has created. His band of mariachis will also be joining the cultural extravaganza. Reservations and tickets are required for this event. The museum sits on 12 acres just below the western edge of Superstition Mountain and is filled with historic buildings and relics about the history of the Lost Dutchman Mine and the area. Operated by the non-profit Superstition Mountain Historical Society, it’s open from 9am to 4pm every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
