Molson Coors said Tuesday it was rolling back some of its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies, joining other major U.S. companies that rolled back similar practices this summer.
The company will also end its participation in the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index and halt its “supplier diversity” efforts, according to a memo obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation. Several other companies, including hardware retailer Lowe's and Ford Motors, have taken similar steps. “In March, our HR team began rolling out the next steps in our culture transformation, centered around evolving our operations from a DEI-focused focus to a broader perspective that ensures all employees feel welcome,” the memo read. “The driving force behind this change was the recognition that when all employees perceive they are welcome, they will be more engaged, motivated, and committed to the success of the entire company. Since then, we have reviewed all of our policies and practices to ensure our operations are aligned with this new focus.”

As multi-billion-dollar companies back away from DEI efforts, they are also facing growing legal pressure from conservative groups, with American Airlines, BlackRock and JPMorgan Chase all revising their DEI statements to be less race-based in response to legal threats.
Home improvement retailer Lowe's announced in August that it would end its participation in the HRC study and its sponsorship of the parade and festival. Ford Motors also said it would end its participation in the study and eliminate diversity quotas for suppliers and dealership owners.
Harley-Davidson also announced policy changes in August following backlash on social media, revealing that the company had not used a “DEI function” since April and was no longer enforcing “supplier diversity spending targets.”
