Man Accused of Killing His Wife 15 Months After She Went Missing During Claims of Domestic Abuse

California Man Charged with Wife’s Murder After Disappearance

In California, a man is facing murder charges for allegedly killing his wife, 15 months after he vanished amid accusations of domestic abuse, according to a statement from the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office.

Tyler McCain has been charged with one count of murder along with special circumstances. The DA’s office asserts that McCain had previously been prevented from harming his wife, Nikki Chan Saley McCain, and was set to testify regarding the allegations of domestic violence.

Nikki Saelee McCain’s younger sister, Chloe Saelee, reported her missing on May 22, 2024. Nikki was last seen at a medical facility in Redding on May 17 and was known to be at home with her husband. Reports indicate her phone connected to the Wi-Fi network at their residence around 3 a.m. on May 18, while she was reportedly with Tyler.

On May 25, 2024, Nikki’s Chevrolet Avalanche was discovered parked on the side of the road near Highway 36 and Begum Road, with a strong odor emanating from the truck bed. Inside, authorities found white sheets with numerous stains, which forensic tests confirmed were blood belonging to Saelee McCain. Additionally, DNA evidence from other items in the vehicle linked back to Tyler McCain.

A confidential informant has claimed that McCain confessed to the murder, as stated by the DA’s office.

Reports indicate a history of domestic violence between the couple, dating back to 2020. While Nikki’s body has not yet been found, prosecutors aim to address the domestic violence incidents from 2023. Court documents reveal that Nikki experienced serious threats to her safety.

Furthermore, it’s noted that on May 29, 2024, McCain attempted to cash a U.S. Treasury check, allegedly forging his wife’s signature despite the check requiring both their signatures. In April 2025, during a traffic stop, it was discovered that McCain had possession of his wife’s damaged license, which had signs of partial burning and was suspended at the time.

Currently, McCain remains in custody without bail, awaiting his next court appearance.

Nikki Saelee McCain was a mother of four.
